My initial involvement with K9 Crusaders was in September 2013 when they were asking for a pet and child free home to foster a young dog. Since then, I have fostered several other dogs that have all now found permanent loving homes. However, I was a “failed” foster with Stanley as I adopted him in January 2014. He is a 3 year old Springer whose tail is constantly wagging and who loves both giving and receiving cuddles. He is under the impression he is a 22kg lap-dog, as you can see from my photo! There is also an oldie greyhound cross living with us who was taken in as an emergency short-term arrangement and he is still here 2 months later. Bugs is supposed to be around 15 years old and the main sign of this is in his eyes and his greying muzzle. However, he is a lovely old fella who has settled well and who is happy to run round the garden with Stanley or curl up together with him on the sofa. I am a fully qualified accountant who has recently taken early retirement from a rewarding and highly pressured management role within the Home Office/Prison Service. This meant I had spare time which I was eager to use to make a meaningful contribution towards something I felt passionate about, whilst also utilising my knowledge, skills and work experience to good advantage. I am passionate about dogs and dog welfare so where better to volunteer than with K9 Crusaders?
