Trustee / Site Volunteer / Fundraiser |
I first became involved as a volunteer with K9 Crusaders in March 2011 when the rescue centre opened at Hollybush Farm. I had retired from work and wanted to do some worthwhile work with animals. Even though I had never owned a dog, because of working full time, I had looked after friends’ dogs when they were on holiday and walked dogs regularly for elderly people through the Cinnamon Trust. As soon as I volunteered I knew I was hooked. I love working with the dogs and giving them the best care possible and I am still learning about dog behaviour. It is enjoyable working with like-minded volunteers. Some days it is very hard to see all the dogs in kennels, through no fault of their own, waiting for their forever homes. It is a lovely day when a dog is re-homed and leaves with their new family without a backward glance. I have been helping out with fund raising events since I first volunteered and I became a Trustee of K9 Crusaders in 2013. Needless to say I now have my own dog , Milo, who I originally fostered. He had to stay as he proved he could live happily with my 3 cats.
